Studio newborn sessions are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to shoot. Confession: I used to prefer lifestyle newborns. But these studio sessions are most definitely growing on me and I think I actually prefer them now!

Today’s baby is the second Baby Girl “A” to be welcomed into my studio during the last couple months.

Her session was one that just kept getting rescheduled. First it was the weather. Second grandma (who brought her) had to reschedule. Third, I had a possible Covid exposure and had to delay a few days. And then finally we were able to get her into the studio.

Normally I prefer to shoot studio newborn sessions when babes are in the 7-12 day age range because they are typically sleepier. But this little miss came in to the studio at 6 weeks old and she did sooo good for me.

I love a good close up that focuses on those itty bitty tiny baby details…the eyelashes, nose, pout of the lips… And I love to leave babies a little more natural when I edit. And just look at how her little hands are tucked up next to her face…one of the few times she let me pose them!

Miss A did great, as long as I didn’t try to mess with her hands too much. So we let her sprawl out however she was comfortable. I love how this shot turned out regardless.

This was actually the first time I’d used this specific combo of bonnet, wrap and fur featured above and when I was editing this image I fell in love. It looks sooo soft and creamy together…perfect for that soft newborn feel. And quite possibly one of my all time favorite newborn images I have ever taken. I just love this one!
